The SEEDcollaborative is an organization committed to bringing sustainably restorative, inspirational learning spaces to all of the world’s children. SEED is founded on the notion that one must think big to be moved to action, and start small to bring that action to life.

Established in Seattle in the summer of 2012, SEED brings together a diverse group of shareholders to create an organization based on innovation, passion, integrity and commitment to making the world a more sustainable and inspiring place for our youth and the communities which they serve.

SEED aims to serve schools, communities and organizations around the globe that are in need of spaces in which to educate their youth and greater communities, with a focus on and passion for the role of sustainability in curriculum.

With our SEEDclassroom and associated SEEDlessons, we have brought to life our ideal of the healthiest learning space imaginable to match our mission: Create. Educate. Inspire.

Stacy H. Smedley, LEED BD+C, LFA                                                     Preconstruction Manager | Sustainability, Skanska USA Building         Executive Director, The SEED Collaborative

Stacy has a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Washington, and 11 years in the architecture and construction professions. Her resume includes the first LEED for Homes Platinum certified project in Washington State as well as the first project in the world to be certified under Living Building Version 2.0 standards, the Bertschi School Living Science Building in Seattle. At Skanska, Stacy fulfills preconstruction management and sustainability roles, focusing on creating sustainable initiatives and opportunities office wide.  She is also the co-founder and Executive Director of the SEED Collaborative, a social purpose corporation committed to creating environmentally restorative learning spaces that educate and inspire children to be the next generation of environmental stewards, based largely on her experience managing the Bertschi School living building and witnessing the transformational impact it had on its students. Stacy is committed to educating and engaging children and her community on sustainable design and has served in various volunteer and mentorship roles, including Membership for the Seattle Branch of Cascadia Green Building Council, Regional Emerging Professionals Recruitment Chair for USGBC, Sustainable Design and Curriculum Consultant to Northshore School District, and 2013 Scholar in Residence for the National Association of Independent Schools Summit on the Environment. She also volunteers at various K-12 public and private schools, offering sustainable design workshops that engage students to think creatively and apply Living Building Challenge principles to design spaces that they would like to learn in and from. Stacy was named a Living Building Challenge Hero in 2012.

Ric Cochrane Business Director -The SEED Collaborative Associate Director – Preservation Green Lab.

Ric Cochrane directs SEED operations and business development, forging key strategic partnerships and implementing building and programming initiatives. He is also Associate Director for the Preservation Green Lab, a national non-profit that strengthens the fabric of communities by leveraging the value of existing buildings to improve environmental, social and economic performance. Ric directs demonstration projects that integrate preservation and sustainability, and develops innovative policy solutions and technical assistance tools. Prior to joining the Green Lab, Ric was Program Manager for King County GreenTools, where he provided policy guidance for 39 King County jurisdictions and sustainable design consulting for County assets. Additional professional experience includes sustainable design consulting and land-use planning with O’Brien and Company, and real estate development with Catapult Community Developers. Ric has Master of Urban Planning and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Washington, and was a Fulbright to India scholar in 2008.
